From 2027, Venice will collect an entrance tourist fee for 72 days, under a decision by the city council. The new charging period will begin on Good Friday and run until mid-August of the following year.

Period and fee amount
Day visitors will pay 10 euros in total during the 72 days — from Good Friday to mid-August of the following year. In 2026 there were 60 such days.

The decision states that authorities refrained from a sharp price hike, although a 30-euro entrance ticket or even a higher amount had previously been discussed. Venice became the first city in April 2024 to introduce an entry charge for day visitors.
Who is exempt and how payments are made
Those who stay overnight in the city are exempt from the entrance charge but must pay the tourist tax; there are exemptions for some categories of people. To confirm payment, visitors usually download the QR code to their phone.
This year, those who booked their visit at least three days in advance could pay 5 euros, while those who left booking until the last minute paid 10 euros. It is noted that some people try to circumvent the rules.
Revenues from the fee and approval
In 2026 more than 650 000 visitors paid the charge, bringing over 5 million euros into the city coffers. The Venice administration stressed that this is about regulating visitor flows, not generating profit.
The city council’s decision must also be approved by the Italian government in Rome to come into full effect.
