Before the start of the cold season, it is recommended to carry out a preventive inspection of solar power plants (СЕС) and energy storage installations (УЗЕ) to detect common faults.
“Most winter problems with СЕС and УЗЕ are not caused by the equipment itself but by factors that can be identified in advance: loose contacts, moisture ingress, faulty sensors or heating systems. Therefore, a preventive inspection before the onset of cold weather is a much cheaper and simpler solution than emergency repairs in the middle of the winter season,” the statement said.
How solar power plants (СЕС) and energy storage installations (УЗЕ) operate in winter
In winter, solar power plants continue to generate electricity, but in smaller volumes due to shorter daylight hours and lower solar irradiance. Low temperatures generally increase panel efficiency because of the temperature coefficient.

Snow cover and prolonged cloudy weather remain the main factors reducing generation. For energy storage installations, temperature control is critical: batteries perform best within the temperature range specified by the manufacturer.
What to check before winter
First of all, carry out a general inspection of the electrical equipment to detect loose contacts, moisture ingress and faults in sensors or heating systems. Such measures help avoid complex repairs during the cold period.

Particular attention should be paid to the operation of monitoring systems — they help detect faults and enable a rapid response to generation losses.
Checking energy storage installations
It is necessary to check the condition of heating, ventilation and monitoring systems, as they directly affect battery performance and service life. Batteries should be operated within the temperature limits specified by the manufacturer.
You should also check that ventilation openings are not blocked by snow or ice and that water is being drained away properly.
