In Kyiv, from Monday, 2 November, heat will begin to be supplied to residential buildings, the city’s mayor, Vitali Klitschko, said.
Connection of social institutions and numbers
The heating season in the city began on 16 October with an initial supply of heat to social institutions. At the request of their managers, almost 50% of such institutions have already been connected to heat.

The list of connected institutions names 157 medical facilities, 402 kindergartens and 85 schools. Connections were made at the individual requests of the institutions’ managers.
Duration of the centralised network start-up
It will take up to a week to start Kyiv’s centralised heat-supply system, the heating network of which is about 3 000 km long. The decision to begin the heating season for the residential stock was made a few days before a forecasted sharp drop in temperature.

The supply of heat to the residential sector is being started gradually to ensure a smooth launch of the large network and to avoid emergency situations during connections.
Possible problems with radiator heating
After the system is started, radiators may heat up unevenly: the top of the radiator hot while the bottom is only lukewarm or cold. This is often attributed to air in the system.
Besides air, uneven heating can be caused by deposits inside the radiator that build up over years and impede the circulation of hot water.
