According to the government portal of the Republic of Poland, foreign nationals crossing the Polish border must confirm they have funds for the entire period of their stay; failure or inability to confirm this may complicate border control procedures.
Alternatives to cash for confirming funds
Border officers usually require travellers to show cash in the minimum permitted amount, but to confirm financial means they also accept an official statement showing the balance on a card. The statement must be requested from the bank no earlier than one month before travel; it can be printed or saved on a smartphone with a QR code to verify authenticity.
Simply opening a banking app and showing the balance on-screen is not enough — the procedure requires an official document. Travellers who keep most of their funds in bank accounts should have such a statement to prove their financial means during checks.

Planned increase to the minimum amount and current rules
As of the end of October 2026 the government is considering changes to the minimum‑sum requirements for entry. Under the draft regulation, a foreign national planning to stay in Poland for no more than four days would have to have at least 1000 zloty to cover accommodation expenses; the current minimum amount is 300 zloty.
For longer trips the draft proposes increasing the daily requirement: instead of the current 75 zloty, foreigners would need to confirm they have 300 zloty for each day of their stay. The proposed changes are still being discussed in the form of a draft regulation.

What to watch for in the coming days
Keep an eye on the final adoption of the draft regulation on minimum amounts and on official guidance about acceptable forms of proof of funds. Both the amounts and the procedures for confirming them will change, including the requirements for bank statements.
Check updates on the government portal of the Republic of Poland and with your bank about the possibility of obtaining an official statement with a QR code no earlier than one month before travel.
