Tesla plans to begin selling autonomous Cybercabs by the end of 2026, as reports.
Sales timeline and production plans
Lars Moravy, vice president of engineering, said during the third-quarter earnings conference that the company expects to begin selling Cybercabs by the end of 2026. At present, all produced units are intended for its own robotaxi fleet.

Deliveries to external customers will begin in small numbers with a gradual ramp-up. Elon Musk said that a fully autonomous version of Full Self-Driving (FSD) without driver supervision is planned to be provided to customers in Q2 2027.
Design and purpose of the Cybercab
The Cybercab is a two-seater electric vehicle without a steering wheel or conventional controls. The vehicle is designed primarily to provide transport services as a robotaxi, rather than for private ownership.

Accordingly, most such vehicles will remain company-owned, and sales to third-party operators are expected to be for commercial use as robotaxis.
Regulatory probe and safety standards
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is investigating whether the Cybercab complies with current safety standards and on what technical basis the company has certified compliance. Current federal standards require the presence of brake pedals, mirrors and other elements that may be absent in autonomous vehicles.
The US Department of Transportation has already proposed relaxing these requirements for driverless transport. The results of the NHTSA review could affect the legality of operating the Cybercab.
