Apple said it plans to increase production of its first foldable iPhone by almost half — to around 14 mln devices over the next 12 months instead of the previously planned 9.7 mln. Sales of the iPhone Duo began on 23 October, and demand has exceeded expectations.
Production plan and delivery times
The company plans to produce around 14 mln devices instead of the initial 9.7 mln, roughly 44% more. The first batches of smartphones sold out quickly after pre-orders opened.

Because of strong demand, estimated delivery dates for some configurations have been pushed back to January 2027. Apple also reported significant interest in the device.
Production constraints and market position
The more complex design may hinder scaling up supply: the manufacture of flexible displays, hinges and other specialised components can limit production volumes. This makes rapid scaling more difficult compared with standard models.

Global shipments of foldable smartphones totalled around 18.2 mln units in 2025, and if Apple reaches the planned volume its first foldable model will take a noticeable share of the segment. Analysts expect the foldable smartphone market to continue growing, although such devices remain largely premium for now.
