Consulting group A-95 reported that tension on Ukraine’s wholesale diesel market has eased, but autogas may rise to 60 hryvnia per litre because of shortages and logistical problems.
According to Serhiy Kuyun, director of consulting group A-95, the feverish tension around diesel fuel that had lasted the past two weeks eased after the government last week decided to make the customs clearance of fuel a priority. “There was news that the frenzy on the wholesale market had disappeared… We felt the tension ease. The frenzied demand was gone and wholesale prices even fell,” Kuyun said.

Kuyun added that the market will continue to follow global price dynamics, since the situation worldwide remains tense. As for autogas, the expert’s forecast is bleak — prices at the pumps of petrol stations (AZS) could rise to around 60 hryvnia per litre.

The expert also said he does not believe in scenarios in which diesel would cost 150 hryvnia per litre or more, because global fuel consumption is gradually falling. “In Ukraine there is even less scope to subsidise prices, because there is no extra money in the budget. So we are effectively passing prices directly on to petrol pumps at AZS,” Kuyun concluded.
