Announcement and context of Lisa Su’s visit
AMD chief executive officer (CEO) Lisa Su said the company plans to substantially increase supplies of chips for artificial intelligence (AI) in 2027. She spoke in Taipei and emphasised that demand for graphics processors and other accelerators is rising very quickly, so additional capacity is required.
The Reuters agency reports. According to Su, AMD has already ramped up shipments during 2026 and is now preparing for an even bigger jump in 2027.

How the company plans to secure increased production
The main purpose of the trip to Taiwan was to strengthen the supply chain and reserve capacity with local partners for the production of processors and graphics cards. Su met representatives of Foxconn and scheduled talks with the leadership of TSMC to lock in manufacturing capabilities.
These steps are intended to help AMD meet its 2027 goals. The company is seeking additional ways to increase output of advanced wafers to match demand in the hardware acceleration market for AI.

Memory for accelerators and AI safety issues
After Taipei, Su will travel to South Korea for talks with Samsung and SK Hynix. The aim of those meetings is to secure sufficient supplies of high-speed memory needed for AI accelerators.
Aside from production matters, the AMD chief also addressed AI safety. She stressed the need for coordination among leading technology companies and referenced a summit involving US President Donald Trump and tech chiefs where they agreed to involve independent auditors to verify the operation of AI systems.
Strategic horizon and demand estimates
Su said the company is planning with a three- to five-year strategic horizon. She forecast very high demand over the coming years and reiterated that additional manufacturing capacity for advanced wafers is required.
The announcement fits a broader industry trend in which chipmakers and their partners are increasing investments in production of AI hardware to catch up with market leaders and satisfy corporate demand.
