Google has introduced the Fitbit Edge — a new fitness tracker with a bright OLED display, built-in GPS and a replaceable battery. This is stated in the company’s announcement.
Display, button and interface
The Fitbit Edge features a hybrid OLED display that the company calls the largest and brightest among its fitness trackers. The viewing area has increased by 46% compared with previous models, and the screen is designed for comfortable use in direct sunlight.

The interface is built around Tiles. The device does not run a full Wear OS, but it supports call handling, notifications and Google Maps. The case includes metal elements, the thickness is 11,5 mm, and a physical button is located on the side for control without using the touchscreen.
GPS and features for training and health
The Fitbit Edge is equipped with built-in GPS, which the Fitbit Air lacks, so the tracker can record routes, speed and distance during running, cycling, swimming and hiking without being connected to a smartphone. The device automatically recognises up to 100 types of physical activity; this capability will later be available on the Fitbit Air as well.
Other features include sleep monitoring, menstrual cycle tracking, an electrocardiogram and Google Health tools, including Health Guardian. Also available is an AI (artificial intelligence) coach for activity analysis and training recommendations.
Battery, straps and price
According to the company, the Fitbit Edge lasts up to seven days on a single charge; a full charge takes about 90 minutes. A separate feature is the replaceable battery, which can be swapped after it wears out.

As with other Fitbit models, the straps are interchangeable: Active Sport, Performance Loop with micro-adjustment and the Metal Links bracelet are available. The price is $179,99 in the USA and £159,99 in the United Kingdom.
