According to Bloomberg, technology companies investing in the development of artificial intelligence are actively tapping the US bond market in 2026: issuance has already reached 1.69 trillion dollars. The average yield on bonds has risen by 1.2 percentage points, to 5.97%.
Growth in volumes and yields compared with last year
The volume of corporate bond issuance in the US in 2026 has risen by roughly 30% compared with the same period last year and stands at 1.69 trillion dollars. The rise in the average yield to 5.97% reflects the higher cost of borrowing.
Historically, higher borrowing costs have restrained companies, but demand for financing projects in artificial intelligence (AI) is allowing technology firms to increase issuance. Investors fear the market may struggle to absorb such a large volume of new debt.

Specific negotiations and capital expenditure plans
Technology companies are preparing large multibillion-dollar transactions: OpenAI expects its annual revenue could reach at least 70 billion dollars by year-end. SpaceX is negotiating to raise 40 billion dollars to purchase Nvidia chips, while Broadcom is working to raise about 60 billion dollars for Anthropic projects and other firms.
“The hyperscalers’ capital expenditure is expected to be around 1 trillion dollars next year, which means issuance of artificial intelligence bonds will not slow down despite the higher-rate environment,” said Scott Schulte, a representative of Barclays. Last week, corporations in the US issued just 11.4 billion dollars of bonds instead of the expected 25−30 billion, underscoring the caution of traditional borrowers.
