The average cost of fast charging with other US operators remained around $0.533 per kWh, while the overall segment average rose by roughly 2% — to $0.540 per kWh. For a hypothetical 60 kWh charging session, costs increased by about $4.50 — from $29.70 to $34.14.

It is estimated that around 80% of EV charging takes place at home; assuming typical efficiency and annual mileage, the tariff increases mean approximately $66 of additional annual costs for a non-Tesla EV owner who charges only at Superchargers.

Tesla network expansion and change in market share

In the third quarter Tesla installed 1,287 new charging ports in the US — this accounted for 31.3% of all new ports added during the period. By comparison, other operators installed fewer: 378 and 344 ports at the respective companies.
