The net profit of the 50 largest retailers in Russia in 2025 fell almost threefold — from 6.4 billion to 2.35 billion dollars, while business profitability fell from 3.3% to 1.1%, reports Dilo citing an article.

At the same time, the combined revenue of the leading retailers in 2025 rose by 8.3% — from 198.9 billion to 215.3 billion dollars, reports Dilo citing the article.
The top ten increased revenues by 11.4% — to 150.8 billion dollars, while the remaining 40 companies grew turnover by only 5%, reports Dilo citing the article.

According to the source, the fall in net profit was driven by higher costs of servicing loans, rising logistics costs, wage increases and a slowdown in demand, reports Dilo citing the article.
The source notes that, because of low margins and high fixed costs, retail chains were unable to pass on higher logistics, labour and packaging costs to the end consumer, and were forced to increase discounting and invest in assets and wholesale distribution infrastructure, reports Dilo citing the article.
According to the source, Russians cut spending on food, medicines, clothing and footwear in 2025, and in 2026 this trend only intensified, reports Dilo citing the article.
