On 14 October a pre-premiere screening of the documentary film “Battle for the Hryvnia”, the production of which was supported by Tascombank, took place at the cinema of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine in the Second World War.
Venue and attendees
That evening, bankers, diplomats, figures from Ukrainian cinema and the film team gathered at a location that is symbolic for the country. The screening brought together representatives of various professions who attended the pre-premiere.

The film is aimed at different generations — from baby boomers to Generation Alpha. Through the story of the national currency’s emergence, it recounts Ukraine’s path to economic independence and shows that the arrival of the hryvnia was only the beginning of the struggle for sovereignty.
Comment from the chairman of the board
“When the hryvnia appeared in Ukraine, it might have seemed that the battle was won. But, in my view, that was when the real struggle for our economic independence began. And it continues to this day. I am proud that Tascombank contributed to the making of this film. It is a powerful project that helps to better understand our history and reflect on the future,” said Volodymyr Dubey.

The chairman’s comment underlined the film’s theme and the role of the project’s support in telling the story of the national currency. The words are quoted verbatim from his speech at the screening.
Foreign screenings and the film team
The film has already been translated into English and handed over to foreign embassies; participation in competition programmes and a wider release across Ukraine are planned. The film is presented as a cinematic calling card intended to introduce foreign viewers to the country’s history.
The organisers thanked Tetiana Lazarieva, the film’s producer, and Volodymyr Sydko, the director, who is currently serving in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), for their work on the film. Support for the film continues projects dedicated to the history of Ukrainian money, one of the symbols of statehood.
