Ford is recalling 35 545 Kuga crossovers for the European market due to wiring-harness abrasion that can cause power loss or a short circuit. The recall affects vehicles produced from 20 December 2024 to 10 July 2026.
Reason for the recall: wiring-harness damage behind the dashboard
The primary defect concerns the main wiring harness behind the dashboard, which carries signals and power for the vehicle’s electronics. Abrasion of this harness can lead to power loss, a short circuit or, in the worst case, a fire.

Heating cycles, excessive vibration or an incorrectly rounded bracket edge are cited as the factors causing the abrasion. The outcome depends on which particular wire in the harness fails first: possible loss of drive at high speeds or a fire.
Scope of the recall and the remedy
The recall covers 35 545 units worldwide; only 42 of them were originally registered in Germany. The production period of the affected vehicles ran from 20 December 2024 to 10 July 2026 at the Valencia plant in Spain.

The remedy involves using cable ties, protective caps and wrapping tape. Technicians will secure the wiring harness back in place, cover damaged sections with caps, wrap worn surfaces and restore the clearance between the harness and the components it contacts.
Production, model range and sales
Ford of Europe will continue series production of the current-generation Kuga at the Valencia plant until the end of 2029, and production of the PHEV (plug-in hybrid electric vehicle) version also continues. In July 2026, Ford struck a joint-venture deal with Chinese manufacturer Geely to produce new crossovers at that plant through the end of the decade.
In 2024 the Kuga recorded just over 105 000 sales in Europe, remaining one of the popular C-segment crossovers and PHEV crossovers in the region.
