BYD has unveiled the new third-generation Tang — a five-seat electric crossover that was first shown in August at the Chengdu motor show, with sales in China expected to begin by the end of the year.
Battery and fast charging
The model is fitted with the Blade Battery 2.0 and Flash Charging technology. In normal temperatures the system is claimed to be able to charge the battery from 10% to 70% in 5 minutes, and to 97% in 9 minutes.
The maker will offer two battery options with capacities of 88,682 and 105,792 kW·h. Range under the China Light‑duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC), depending on configuration, will be 730, 830 or 850 km.

Interior with two large displays
Inside, the centrepiece is a 30-inch panoramic screen, while a 35.4-inch integrated display replaces the traditional instrument cluster and head-up display. According to Lu Tian, general manager of the Dynasty series, the interior design is inspired by the control panels of spacecraft seen in science-fiction films.
Passengers can choose between two interior colours — Dune Beige or Amber Brown — there is more than 1000 mm of legroom in the second row and the seats can recline up to 130 degrees. The second row will also feature a layout described as “weightless”.

Dimensions, equipment and market plans
Body length is 5045 mm, width 1980 mm, height 1760 mm, and wheelbase 2950 mm. Equipment listed includes the DiSus-A intelligent body-control system with a two-chamber air suspension and the God’s Eye B driver-assistance suite.
The model was shown in Chengdu in August; sales in China are planned to begin by the end of the year, and the price has not yet been announced. For reference, the larger flagship SUV Great Tang starts at 239 900 yuan, or roughly $35 500, and the new five-seat Tang is expected to be a smaller and more affordable alternative.
