Apple releases iOS 27.2 with AI-powered Siri and over 160 security fixes

Apple has released iOS 27.2 — the first major update to iOS 27, which adds AI-powered Siri capabilities and contains more than 160 security fixes.

Siri gains artificial intelligence capabilities

Siri can now recall previous conversations and use additional data sources, including photos in Messages, calendar events and voice messages. The assistant has also gained support for French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish.

The AI-enabled feature is currently not available in Ukraine and requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer to work.

Contextual suggestions in Messages, changes in Photos and Music

The Messages app now includes contextual recommendations that allow, among other things, tracking parcels or adding invitations to the calendar. Apple Music received a black-and-white icon and an updated interface.

The Photos app has added caption editing in shared albums, duplicate protection and reminders about their expiration. The system also labels some images created or edited by AI using SynthID.

FaceTime, Apple TV updates and other changes

Dual Capture in FaceTime now works during group calls and allows the front and rear cameras to be used simultaneously. The Apple TV app now supports profiles on iPhone and iPad, and Multiview mode lets you watch up to four sports broadcasts at once.

iPhone Duo gains support for the Apple Pencil USB-C and an Edge Light feature to illuminate the face during video calls. Automations in Shortcuts have also been updated, along with changes in Podcasts and Games, and the Phone app now includes reminders about contact anniversaries.

More than 160 security vulnerability fixes

iOS 27.2 contains more than 160 security vulnerability fixes. The company notes that none of them have been exploited in active attacks.

The update combines security fixes with new interface and AI features that are available for compatible devices.
