On Tuesday, 13 October, Microsoft shares hit a record high after renewed investor interest in artificial intelligence technologies; the stock has risen more than 54% from its June low and added about $1,4 trillion in market value.
Price movement and market value
On Tuesday the shares rose 0,4% and closed at $543,45, above the previous record set in October 2025. In June the shares fell 17% — the deepest monthly drop since 2000 — and Microsoft lost almost $600 billion of market capitalisation at that time.
The rise of more than 54% from the June low has added roughly $1,4 trillion of market value compared with the low point. The price levels are recorded at Tuesday’s close.

Reasons for the rebound and analysts’ assessments
The rebound began after the company published its financial results on 29 July, which showed cloud revenue growing at the fastest pace in four years. The next day the shares jumped 16%, and the company reported its best quarterly performance since 1998.
After the report at least two analyst firms upgraded their recommendations on the stock to “buy”. Of the 72 analysts tracked in the survey, 68 recommend buying Microsoft shares and none recommend selling.

The analysts’ average target price is $584, implying roughly 8% upside from Tuesday’s closing price. Despite the recovery, by year-end 2026 the company’s shares still lag major indices (an index is a measure of the movement of a group of stocks): year to date Microsoft shares are up about 12%, while the Nasdaq 100 has risen 21% and the S&P 500 14%.
