The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) explained that at the start of November demand for foreign currency in Ukraine rose because of increased budget spending and more active purchases by households.
Possible blackouts of up to 14–20 hours
Due to strikes on substations and problems with transmission of generation, Ukrainians face blackouts of up to 14–20 hours a day even with operating nuclear power plants (NPPs). Risks of sewage system collapse and rising prices are reported; some businesses are already buying electricity for 17 hryvnia per kilowatt-hour.

At the start of November demand for foreign currency rose because of higher budget expenditure, notably on defence, and more active household purchases, while supply fell due to shelling and lower receipts from exporters. The bank noted that the situation remains under control and there is no shortage of cash foreign currency in the banking system.
