According to Finland’s Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen, on 29 October in Washington Finland and the United States signed two agreements — on critical mineral resources and on technological prosperity.

The documents were signed by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Finland’s Foreign Minister Elina Valtonen. “Finland and the United States have excellent relations. In recent years our economic ties have strengthened significantly, especially in industrial products, communications, space technologies, quantum technologies, artificial intelligence and several other fields of advanced digital technologies,” Valtonen wrote.

Valtonen also noted that she had discussed Russia’s war against Ukraine with the US Secretary of State. “Finland’s position is clear: we need pressure on Russia’s war machine and support for Ukraine, including its air defence, to protect civilian lives,” Elina Valtonen said.
Earlier, the United States concluded a bilateral framework agreement on cooperation regarding critical mineral resources with Lithuania. And Greenland’s Minister for Mining Naaja Nathanielsen rejected the United States’ desire to divide the island’s natural wealth, saying that no external power should decide the fate of the vast resources of this Arctic territory.
